Regina Spektor is on my list of favorite musicians. I’m super, super stoked about her new album coming out in May. ’Till then, here’s a little bit of Regina doing what she does oh-so-well. Enjoy!
P.S.
Thanks to a head’s up from the super-fabulous Hubster, I had to add this one last minute – a little taste of what’s to come on her new album!
A couple weeks ago, the hubster and I watched Spinal Tap. Oh, my goodness. Perfectly ridiculous and uncomfortably funny…it was a good watch. Their music video The Majesty of Rock is just like a little mini-version: perfectly ridiculous, and uncomfortably funny. I mean, just check out these lyrics: The Majesty of Rock, the Mystery of Roll, the darning of the sock, the scoring of the goal, the farmer takes a wife, the barber takes a pole…
Priceless.
But as much as I dig his character in Spinal Tap, Christopher Guest will, and always will be, to me, Corky St. Clair (Waiting for Guffman).
Lucky for you, I have a little of both lined up today! Enjoy!!
The 2 minutes and 24 seconds encompassed in this video contain 47 different shades of bizarre. I know, because I counted.
Strangely enough, according to Pantone – whoever that is – Tangerine Tango is going to be 2012′s hottest color. It’s also a color prominently featured in this music video. I can’t decide if that adds another shade of bizarre to the whole thing, or if it takes a shade away.
At any rate, I’d like to say thank you, 80′s, for giving us so much fodder for giggling. And for teaching us that dancing is a make-or-break fundamental foundation of friendship.
Much to the hubsters chagrin, I’m also a sucker for bluegrass.
Punch Brothers play bluegrass, but bluegrass with a kick in the pants. Some of what they do is uber-bluegrassy. Some of what they do bears only a small resemblance to the genre. But everything they do, they do so, so well.
I<3 Punch Brothers. They play good music. And what do we say about good music, friendlies? Share it!
The first video is what hooked me. I hope it will hook you! It’s just a taste of the second movement of The Blind Leaving the Blind from their first album, Punch. The music is haunting, and it’s stuck with me from day one. The second video is from their second album, Antifogmatic, released last year. The song is Alex, and is a little more lighthearted than the first. The third is Rye Whiskey, another song from their second album. The bluegrass in ‘em really shines here.
Have a look, give ‘em a listen, and if you like what you see/hear, do something about it! Buy their albums (the second is available on vinyl – yummy!), go see them in concert, tell your friends. Support the arts and the artists you love!
So I had this uber-clever-funny blog post planned for Friday about how the invention of the dishwasher makes up for the invention of pantyhose. But this sicky-preggo stuff has me feeling selfish. All I want to do is sit in a bubble bath and re-read Twilight. (Yeah, I’m that girl. No shame here.) I just can’t seem to get the gumption up to dive into the deep ocean that is pantyhose/dishwasher culture.
So the Dishwasher/Pantyhose post will have to wait while I’m being selfish. In the meantime, I’m going to keep my Friday post short and sweet. Because it has come to my attention that some of you out there don’t know who Mumford and Sons are. I’m not entirely sure how that’s possible, but I’m making it my personal agenda to fix that.
Here’s the thing: Mumford and Sons play good music. And what do we say about good music, dear friendlies? SHARE IT! So take a look at a couple of their videos, and if you like what they do, support them! Buy their music, go see them in concert, tell everybody you know. Support the arts and the artists you love!
Due to the TV station claiming the rights to the video, this video is no longer available on YouTube. Bummer. You can go watch it here (thanks, K. B. Owen), or I can describe it to you. Here goes: Stop! It’s weathertime! *music plays in background, dancers dressed in M.C. Hammer pants girate across the [...]
Okay, so this giggle’s not as quick as usual. But when you’re never gonna dance again… And when your guilty feet have got no rhythm… Sometimes what you really need is five minutes of a guy in pleather tights playing the sexy sax riff from George Michael’s Careless Whispers over… and over… and over… (p.s. I’m more than a [...]
Oh yes. He’s got moves. And he knows it. (And I love how, at the end of the video, he gets all chill with the guy walking by, and then follows up with a KAPOW! I’m comin’ to GETCHYA! flashy kick/wave/surfer move. It’s oh, so good!)
(This is a post from about a year ago. I just love, love, love this little tune, and wanted to re-play it for all you new friendlies who have joined me over the past year. Hope you like it, too.) Good music is a huge motivator for me. I stumbled onto this gem yesterday, and it’s been stuck [...]
