I’m So Very Easily Entertained.

confession

I’m so very easily entertained.

SO very easily entertained.

The Hubster asked me once why I write quasi-dark, sort-of heavy fiction (his words, not mine). I understand why he wanted to know – my personality is bubbly and happy and ornery and prone to giggling. That Jane Austen quote (from Pride and Prejudice, I believe), “She had a lively and playful disposition, which delighted in anything ridiculous,” well, that’s me.

But for the most part, my writing isn’t. If you’ve read my books, you know that’s the case. If you haven’t, check out my inspiration boards on Pinterest. You can tell just by the pictures that my writing leans toward the dramatic. (Here, here, here, and here.)

But oh, my goodness you guys. A good laugh – the kind that turns you inside out and leaves you sore for days – I love that.  I’m always hunting it down. And here’s the thing: It doesn’t take much to get me there. I heard once that you become most like the five people you spend the bulk of your time with. The median age of those five people, for me, is about twelve years old. Maybe this explains my juvenile sense of humor. Click through these links to see what I mean:

T-rex problems? See Myndi laugh.

Geek Humor and Play On Words? Oh my gosh, yes.

Anything involving dogs, praying mantises, or kittehs? I’m totally calling The Hubster at work and making him look up the link (which, as charming as I find this habit, he doesn’t seem to appreciate).

If it’s Wal-Mart, it’s funny.

And finally, hipsters. I can laugh at hipsters until I’m blue in the face. And then I’ll laugh a little more. Because, come on, hipsters. You know you’re ridiculous, right?

How about you? What tickles your funny bone? Got any funny links you want to share? It’s confession time – post below!

Ha! I guess that’s why I find potty humor so funny. It must be one of the side effects of spending ones days with small children. That’s why teachers stay young at heart. Fun post!

I too really love the deep down gut laugh. It can be so cleansing. This past weekend I traveled to Tahoe for my RWA chapter’s bi-annual retreat and by Saturday night we were all so tired we were loopy and combined with wine we laughed, and laughed, and laughed at the silliest things. It was amazing how good I felt after that.

    Thanks for sharing the laughs.
