TRUE STORY: Hey, Everybody!

Here at Shafer Haus, we’re in the process of toilet training the Took. You know what’s coming next, right?

SHENANGINS.

The other day when Took and I were at the grocery, we stopped in at the bathroom before we started shopping. As per our routine, I go first to kinda demonstrate how the whole thing goes, and then she takes her turn. After she’s done we throw a little party which includes (but is not limited to) singing, dancing, clapping, shouting, twirling – basically, anything that says in 2 1/2 year old speak, Please for the love of God keep going in the toilet so Mommy can quit spending your college fund on diapers! And when we’re home, we always cap this celebration off with an announcement to anybody who’s home at the time:

HEY EVERYBODY! ALICE WENT POTTY IN THE TOILET!

This statement is met with cheers and general merriment. Sippy cups of juice for everybody, on the house.

So we’re at the grocery. We’re done in the bathroom. Took sprints ahead of me into the little Starbucks cafe that’s nestled in the corner; there are probably twenty people there enjoying their lunch. She stops, spreads her arms wide, and shouts at the very top of her little lungs,

“HEY EVERYBODY! MOMMY WENT POTTY IN THE TOILET! WOO-HOO!”

<enter embarrassed silence here>

TRUE STORY: It’s important to celebrate the little victories.

    Lolol! Oh Myndi, I’m sorry, but that is hilarious! Embarrassing yes. But nonetheless adorable. She was proud of you mom. Kids. Gotta love ’em! You’ll be laughing about this one for years to come. 🙂
