TITLE: My Almost Epic Summer
AUTHOR: Adele Griffin
WHY I PICKED IT UP: I grabbed this book because (a) it was short, (b) the cover said it was a National Book Award Finalist, and (c) Adele’s Hello was playing over the Goodwill’s crusty stereo they have set up in the corner. Since that is also the name of this author it seemed like fate.
WHAT I LIKED ABOUT IT: This little book had serious flow. The main character–Irene– is a likable, funny, and believable teenager. There was just enough tension between her and the other characters in the story to really pull you along.
WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE ABOUT IT: In truth? Nothing. It was perfect at being
what it was–a lighthearted book about a teenage girl trying to navigate her social world over the summer.
OVERALL RATING: Five Stars
